I suggest just directing people who don't want to use the forums here, and
making a separate list for them when the load reaches critical mass (as for
other lists).

For me it sounds like a good start as IMHO we will need a ML for general user questions anyway.

So, when we see that the number of support requests on this general users list gets too high we can create a new list for those who really want to be served via mailing list.

Of course, to have a forum for support questions would be the primary way to get solutions.
