David, I find the new diagrams easy to read.

Rick and Dan Carter had some good comments on maintaining the style and 
possible indent for multiple choice items - and I think those were also 
good ones. (I prefer seeing multiple choices in BNF notation, but BNF 
can be just as bad as the railroad tracks for some people.)
 
Mark's comments on a "small amount of descriptive text" is also a good idea.

I think the "box" needs to stay, as I have discovered that changing 
fonts does not always give you the desired results - especially when a 
Operating System, Browser, or PDF reader substitutes the specified font 
for one that is "more readably" available.)...
..but the box as displayed in my browser has a fair amount of "white 
space" above the text line, and almost none below the text line.

I know you don't have a lot of control, but maybe a box that is 1.5 
lines high, with the text vertically centered but make it a little more 
readable.
