Bill,

as I am somewhat allergic to installers I always build my own Rexxen 
and I find that getting this process to work pays off at a favorable 
rate; if you define the box as 'developer machine' at install chances 
are that you need nothing extra; then it is ./bootstrap ; ./configure ; 
sudo make install and you are ready to go.

In this case you might need to find out how to do a 32bit build, but 
this is exactly the list to ask that question on when it is not obvious.

Other than that, you might eliminate the problem altogether by using 
JDBC like Rony stated.
