If you used JDBC, you could stick to 64-Bit ooRexx.

You'd get access to JDBC, if you installed BSF4ooRexx from
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/bsf4oorexx/> and merley need to add the jar to 
the classpath of the
database system you wish to interact with. In the BSF4ooRexx "samples" 
directory, go into the
subdirectory "ReneJansen" and check out the script "jdbc.jrexx" which 
demonstrates how to create a
table, insert some records and query the table; this script runs for PostGres, 
derby and hsql. You
could easily extend it to e.g. use DB2/UDB etc.
