Most consumer sources of HD video are already compressed.  OTA, cable, sat,
Blu-Ray, HD-DVD.

I'm not sure what HD camcorders generate.  SD DV is compressed in colorspace
(4:1:1) but not in timespace.  With the result that DV files are larger than
mpeg2 files.

If we define a TV as a tuner with display and speaker(s), it would be less
expensive to buy a standalone tuner for recording than to buy something
that can compress HD in real time.

I suppose if someone wanted to record their kid playing a videogame they'd
need a compressor.  Or if you find a HD camera that doesn't compress.
