yes, Win98 is a problem for Xfree86 on Windows. Windows98 actually has 16-bit and 8-bit code packed in the so-called Gdi32.dll. M$ named the DLL gdi32.dll to disguise the end-users. All you have is a 32-bit desktop but behind the screne it is 8 and 16 bit stuff, that is why you get often "kernel32.dll crashed" on Windows98 and 95. Xwin cannot get a surface lock on windows98 and 95 dues its 16-bit crap burried in the kernel, therefore xwin from xfree86 crashes on windows98 and 95. I explained this on cygwin-xfree mailing list, please check the archive there. > > I have installed the dxsamples directory and the OpenDX Cygwin binaries > following the Readme file on the download page, but I can't start > OpenDX. You can get csh (tcsh) from Cygwin Related Sites, check for a link under "Related Link" at http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin or ask at Cygwin mailing list.
