Matt, 
   I tried your set up in my data and it works
more or less fine. As you mention, when dealing
with more complex grids (grids with holes on it
for example), the simple set up show connections 
that should not be there. 

   I am looking around the documentation to see
weather Connections is versatil enought to 
render the mesh properly.
