I am gonna make the recommendation that everyone else has ni the past. 
Learch the dx native format, Since yopu are dealing with FEM data you 
have the connections, just put that in the file and you will be set.  It 
is not that hard to do.  Look at the examples and at 
samples/data/irregular.dx

Then just to an import->showconnections->image and you will see how to 
do exporting of connecitons.  Then, if you want try
import->connect->showconnections->image to see what can go wrong
