I do have the latest USB modem from Vodafone. On Linux you just plug it and you get internet instantly. Fully controllable from any browser when typing the default gateway IP in the address bar. Same under windows except that you have to install driver and couple of restarts. Talking about windows XP. I once called a cs rep. He tried to convience me that the slowness is due to a virus. I told him that am using Linux so this can't be valid. He then replied that the virus is in the network itself and I must install an anti virus and scan the network. #truestory Since then, am trying not to touch my network wires. To not get infected.
Back to the OP? OK so it's basically it's a user demand. If you tell the guy that u r using Mac, will he dare to tell u that u must use windows? If there are enough Linux users not willing to give up their OS, Linux will be taken into their considerations. No costumer service representative, of any service, is expected to walk you through testing using Linux command lines.
