You may be right.  however, I am unsure of what level of foot print I have to
have.

My two big requirements are:

A map which supports queries (spatial/attributive)

a way to download spatial data, and then upload spatial data

Also, the site needs to offer educational information for folks who may know
nothing about mapping/GIS

My basic map is taking shape, and I can offer data to download in a zip
format (shapefile) along with pre-authored maps (pdf format).

Right now I like the idea of a virtual machine since it would be like I am
working here at home on my p/c and can have free reign...
