Yes it sounds like you need either a VPS, or someone specifically offering a 
geoserver solution. 

You need to make sure you will have enough disk space for your maps (and any 
caching and temporary files), and I have no idea what the minimum amount of ram 
geoserver can use but make sure the vps has enough for it.
