The very nature of development of a new project is usually going to mean 
that it requires leading, if not bleeding edge versions of libraries. If 
we're not pushing the envelope, using new features, then we're in 
maintenance mode.

Debian has always been a conservative distro - one could argue that 
certain components of Sarge were already outdated on the day it was 
released. I like Debian - I use it on quite a few systems. But I 
generally use Debian-testing for this kind of thing.
