Hi Dominik,

first of all, you can browse the core-list for more information,
Carsten and Carlo are currently discussing all the animation
issues.

The animations will be written in osb. No file format will
be supported for now. Our idea was to write a 3ds plugin to
export to osb with the animation information. We have not thought
about supporting VRML animations (who uses that format anyway?).
For the 3ds plugin we thought to reutilize/evolve Maslowski's code
(he wrote a "rudimental" 3ds->osb exporter). This job could be
done by a student somehow as a project...

Currently only in 1.8, but porting to 2.x should be fairly easy.

I think within 3 month (that's when Carlo's thesis will be done!)
you should have "something", but don't be too optimistic ;)

Proper builtin camera path/orientation animations would be very
cool.

You are invited to join the conversation on the core list if you
have any comments and good ideas!!!

Thank you,
