The conclusion is much worse: It's not only a question of a "can" versus "cannot" (in the sense of "doesn't work"). It is even AGAINST THE LAW, to ship an incompatible version. http://download.java.net/dlj/DLJ-FAQ.html "8. What are my OBLIGATIONS under this license?" ----->> "Ship only a compatible JDK on your OS. If notified of an incompatibility, you must correct it and offer a patch or replacement to downstream recipients within 90 days, or stop shipment and notify downstream recipients." <<----- SUNW breaks the law, because they themselves offer the Distro-JDK for download and are therefore themselves "Distro-JDK distributors": https://jdk-distros.dev.java.net/developer.html http://download.java.net/dlj/binaries/jdk-1_5_0_08-dlj-solaris-sparc.sh They had been notified in May (by Belenix team) and in June and again in July and August (by Belenix plus Schillix plus myself), that their DLJ-Distro-JDK is incompatible. The DLJ would have forced them, to ... * "Ship only a compatible JDK on your OS" (this means OpenSolaris) * "If notified of an incompatibility, you must correct it and offer a patch or replacement to downstream recipients within 90 days" (The issue is known by SUNW for more than 100 days now! Where is the notification? Where even a patch ?) * or stop shipment and notify downstream recipients (Did they stop shipment of that unusable Distro-JDK stillbirth ?) Questions over questions, how a thing like that can happen. Sorry if those words sound harsh. But they're still not harsh enough. Because I'm talking about facts. Facts I wouldn't believe, if I didn't experienced them day after day, half a year long.
