You know Mr Casper,
My question is still not answered, yet.
Even if the mentioned libraries are Visual Basic
libs, this does not matter.
But what matter is the qeustion: How and what
exactly the existing distributions are distributing
-aka giving away, giving to the users- if the system
libs are not open.
How is it made that these systems of Schillix and
Belenix are running if they could not get the libs?
What have they - the devs of the distros - done to
get the replacement for these system dependant libs?
All the necessary system libraries are open. The
libraries like
ibCrun, libCstd, libdemangle etc. are
libraries specific to the C++ runtime environment
for binaries
ompiled using SUN Studio compiler.
These libraries are bundled by default in Solaris
Express, but are
ot necessary for the OS to function.
Mute point as the lib distribution is being addressed but with your statement
that Solaris Express is not dependent on Java and the libs that are dependent
on it for install process in order for a functional Solaris OS are you saying
that
Belinix should be the standard which Solaris Express should follow? Or Solaris
shouldn't be dependent on Java for the OS to function in general?

Bob,

BTW, the problematic of defining what an OS is (or what belongs to the it) is a
vague and wide field.
Nothing against JAVA, but in my opinion, JAVA does not belong to the OS.
It is a userland application.
Admittedly an important one.
But things like smc are a buggy and sluggish pain.
And in terms of CD/DVD read performance, or support of compressed iso images, SUNW's
Solaris Express would be *well advised* to take Belenix "as standard".
Thanks.
Well, just FYI, the features are making their way into OpenSolaris.
The process
of reviews, ARC cases, testing etc. takes time.
In addition some of these are already being used in the Solaris
Express LiveDVD
Kit available here:

Moinak.
