I don't think OpenSolaris is intended for "distro-hoppers". I have been in the
Linux business for more than a decade, and I don't have much stomach for
distro-hoppers--those who downloaded the distro iso, for free, spent minimum
amount of time on it with no or little conscientious effort, and then made a
big fuss on how the distro was not developed confirming to their personal
idiosyncrasies. I had enough of these.

To utilize many of the advantages of OpenSolaris, you really have to show some
commitment--since Sun has expended so much manpower & that Solaris is really
intended to be an enterprise OS, I believe this quid-pro-quo is only fair.
Once you have done so (i.e., some commitments), you will find out that it is
indeed very difficult to find a hardware that does not work with OpenSolaris
(unless you try it on some PC which wouldn't even be deemed acceptable by
recycling shops).

Wrt configuration tools etc., I agree there are rooms for improvement. But I
also think a bug report will be more effective and more appreciated than hollow
complaints.
