Is the root cause of the problem that SUNWmfrun contains some kind of 
cryptography module that can't be exported under U.S. laws or is it more of an 
issue with a third-party company that owns intellectual property or part of the 
code that prevents free re-distribution?

Whenver the cryptography export restrictions created problems with FOSS, the 
OpenBSD devs in Canada could usually be relied upon to create a Canadian 
version of the same cryptography module that works just as well as the original 
and wasn't subject to export restrictions.

Also, does flar create not work well with the ZFS version used in 2008.11 and 
that's why it's not in there? Or is flar supposed to be replaced by some 
feature in ZFS? Or is the flar code owned by a third party that won't allow 
free redistribution of it? I haven't heard any hints from anybody at Sun yet as 
to why it's impossible to have a flash archive package for Indiana.

If someone were to say, find the source code for flarcreate and try to build it 
on Indiana, do you think it would work?
