There have always been rumors on the market that Oracle might one day acquire Sun. During SNCQ4'2003 (product launch) conference in Berlin (yes, more than 5 years ago) I asked a high-ranking Oracle-Exec how much of these rumors contain any truth in them, and he instantly shouted "Oracle is NEVER EVER going to buy Sun!". Okay, today we have "Never ever". I'm glad that it is not IBM who picks Sun. Nevertheless: It hurts very much to see Sun's top management throwing that unique company away, for peanuts really. Without their obvious mistakes of recent years they could have kept Sun independent (and even made it more market-dominant and economically successful). Many tech (and market-) folks including myself have always tried to advise Sun, that some of their decisions have been - well - foolish to stupid, if not dumb. Instead of listening, they ignored us and pointed fingers against us. It is a sad day for the world of computing. :( _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
