I think people should assume nothing. If you'll note from today's announcement, Oracle considers Java and Solaris the two most important products produced by Sun.
in any case they have no interest in an ubuntu clone.
Thankfully, no one is working on an Ubuntu clone at Sun. The goal of the OpenSolaris 200x releases, as I see it, are to create a modern OS distribution that innovates using OpenSolaris technologies such as DTrace, ZFS, and more.
