If there were a private NNTP server, I'd use it, as it would
be a better fit for the model than Jive, which (at least
in this particular deployment of it) hasn't even been all that
reliable.  It would certainly allow reading _much_ faster.

However, it would probably have to be set up to authenticate
(with os.o accounts) to keep the spammers out, and be isolated,
i.e. not exchanging with other servers.

And I have a feeling that a bunch of the folks under 30 wouldn't
know where to find a newsreader client, anyway.

As it is, I usually use the forums, not the mailing lists, although if
I first notice a follow-up as an email, I may reply to that rather than
finding it on the forum to reply there.

(I'd use gmane.org, if all the forums corresponded to lists, and
all the lists appeared there and could be posted to from there.)
