I think I may have gotten off topic from the original post. I was thinking he was trying to do host interface networking in vbox and looking back he is probably just trying to get on the internet.
Under settings>networking> select one of the pcnet interfaces and Nat (not host interface) for your networking settings. In the OS you may need to install the vbox guest additions for the drivers for the virtual box hardware it's trying to emulate. When the vm is running at the top of the window where you find the setting to mount the cd rom at the bottom there should be something saying install virtualbox guest additions. after clicking it, it mounts it as your cd rom instead so you can double click it and run the install. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
