Hi,

I just installed snv_77 on a small machine that I intend to use as a
fileserver. The motherboard I bought is an Asus M2N-VM, which has an integrated
Realtek RTL8168/8111 Gigabit Ethernet NIC. From what I can gather, this should
be supported by the rge driver, but I don't seem to be having any luck.

I had no network connectivity after installation, so I grepped the output of
'prtconf -v' for "Ethernet" and sure enough, device number 054c from vendor
10de (nVidia) shows up. I did an 'update_drv -a -i "pci10de,54c" rge' and that
seemed to go fairly well. I followed it with 'ifconfig rge0 plumb'. After that,
ifconfig reported a zeroed-out MAC address.

/usr/X11/bin/scanpci turns up devices from vendor 10de (nVidia) and 1022 (AMD),
but I've managed to account for just about all of them by using
http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/iii/?i=10de. Interestingly, that site says 54c is an
Ethernet controller on one specific motherboard, but even that is unconfirmed.

If I'm correct, I should be seeing an entry for vendor 10ec, device 8168.
Unfortunately, that doesn't show up. Has anyone had luck with this motherboard
and/or network chip? Is there anything else I can do or should I give up and
buy a NIC I know will work?

Thanks,

Dave
