After a closer look, it seems the nge driver gets the MAC
wrong!

When booted from an opensuse 10.3 dvd, the MAC reported for
the nvidia nic is "00:1d:60:0b:18:1b"; but when booted under
opensolaris snv_77, the nic's mac is reversed "1b:18:0b:60:1d:00".

Apparently the reversed nic doesn't work, and snoop reports
it's a special multicast mac.

And after manually configuring the correct mac, the nic
seems to work (?), that is, I'm able to get an IP
address with dhcp:

# ifconfig nge0 ether 0:1d:60:b:18:1b
# ifconfig nge0 dhcp start

And I had to manually bind the nge driver to the
pci10de,54c device, with

     update_drv -a -i '"pci10de,54c"' nge
