Thanks for your help. Unfortunately it did not bring my ethernet device up. I
also tried update_drv -a -i '"pci8086,1094" "pciex8086,1094"' e1000g. The
result of this was the error message which looked like "driver successfully
added to the system but failed to attach!". I don't know the meaning of this
message but found out (with modinfo) that the driver module e1000g was now
loaded. Than I tried the command 'prtpicl -v' and piped the output to less.
There I searched for 1094 and for e1000g. Both I found in the section from
which I think it is a description of my Ethernet device. There I also found an
entry "Instances: -1" which I think is strange because I can not have minus one
instances of this Ethernet device. But maybe this is an indication of an error
the driver software encountered while trying to talk to the device. I tried
this with snv_82 and with the live CD Indiana. The results were the same on
both systems.
The PC where I tried all this is a transtec Senyo 530 with Intel Core 2 CPU
4400 @ 2.00 GHz and the main board seems to be an XFX and the Ethernet device
is on board.
I now think I have to find me another PC for installing and using OpenSolaris.
