I would think that if someone interested out there has a
video board (I don't) and probably x86, although it looks
like at least some boards should work on SPARC too (all I
have right now is SPARC), it wouldn't be that big a deal to
get around the compile problems. I'm not inclined to spend
much time on it myself, not having the means to test the
result, and if the development is as inactive as it appears,
probably having nobody other than here to feed back any
changes to.

The problem I see with getting someone here interested is that
the drivers are GPL. Some interpretations would have it that that
would preclude distributing binaries of the drivers with the OS,
although perhaps they could be distributed separately. I don't
blame them for being GPL, since I gather it was a port from Linux
rather than a total rewrite, so they were probably stuck with that.
But it could complicate getting it convenient here, unless someone
with x86 and maybe SPARC available to them too, at various OS
versions, worked with some place like blastwave to get it into
both 32 and 64 bit packages.

If someone gave me a board and a suitable x86 box, I'd probably
be willing to fool with it, but wouldn't make any promises even then.
And no, I'm not asking for any such thing, because for me it'd be
more a nice-to-have than something I personally would care to spend
much time on. I gather other people would want it somewhat more though.

I saw http://www.sun.com/servers/x64/x4500/videosurveillance/offerings.jsp
which was about using a Thumper and networked cameras for video
surveillance systems - pretty cool. Capture or tuner boards aren't quite
the same market or usage scenario by any means, but there are some
similarities, so I would hope that in the long run, someone might want
to think about getting some sort of solution working, esp. given the
precedent of the no longer available SunVideo Plus (more or less
rebranded Osprey 1500) and the rather obscure Sun Tuner box (which
relies on XIL, which I think has been obsoleted and removed).
