Sorry for the confusion, we are not running the virtual appliance, we are just
running the installation on a Windows 2008 server. As far as I know there's
nothing specific with our configuration. Best of my knowledge the ThinClient's
PXE Boot and connect to a specific server.

Where are the configuration files stored for the LDAP and how would I go about
backing them up and restoring them? I had posted a question a several weeks ago
to see what the process would be to upgrade but did not get any real answers.
One response mentioned that the configurations are probably stored in an XML
but not specifics. Part of why I was trying to get into the manager was to see
if there was an option to back up or a path that would show me where the
configuration files are kept.

It sounds like we have two options to upgrade, but either way we will need to
back up and restore our LDAP settings. We can either upgrade the installation
on Windows that we currently have or go the appliance route with VM (which you
believe is the best route). Is this correct?

Hi,

That configuration is better if you what to migrate, of course, because your
openthiclient apliance doesn't depend on Windows AD. Good news for you.

The best solution, If you don't know details about the inherited
infraestructure, is allways migrating to 1.0 version.
The problem are the LDAP users of the openthinclient: you will need to make a
backup of the LDAP and then restore that backup on the openthinclient
infraestructure again when you upgrade to 1.0 version.
Tell me, do you have any kind of specific package developed for openthinclient?
If the answer is affirmative, you will need to backup the openthinclient
packages too, just to be able to install them on your new server.
The virtual server for the openthinclient appliance is inside windows 2008
server? under a vmware workstation? this is completly not recomended! VSphere
would be a great solution instead.

Miguel

I believe the version is 0.45, I know it's not 1.0. It's not virtualized as
it's running on a Windows 2008 server and based on what I found the virtualized
appliance runs on Linux. LDAP is just under openthinclient so it's not tied to
our Microsoft AD.

Hi,

Which version of openthinclient are you using? 0.45 or something like that?
Is your server-side virtualized?
What about your LDAP? is it under windows or under the openthinclient
appliance?

Miguel

Miguel-

It's listening on port 10389. I inherited the system and I'm trying to figure
out how it works so that I can upgrade to version 1 to hopefully address some
security concerns found in a penetration test. We are using the openthinclient
realm and our workstations use PXE boot.

The only service that I see that is related is the one titled
openthinclient.org . Is there another service that I should be looking for? The
only service that is set to automatic that is not running is related to Sophos.

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,

It seems like the manager is not up and running. Did you checked if the service
is up and running? maybe a netstat -ano helps there too, just to know if the
server is listening on the socket...

>From where are you connecting your thinclients? Java? Thinclient through pxe
>boot?
It's extrange that the login page shows and the AD fails... Are you using
openthinclient realm or you are using a MS one?

Miguel

Not sure what happened, at one point I was able to connect from my workstation
to the manager and then to the Realm, but now I'm unable to from my workstation
and from the server itself. The information page to log on comes up, we are not
connected to our AD, I enter the password and click "next" and nothing happens,
almost like it's not recognizing that next was clicked.

I thought it might be because my workstation was running Java 7.25 so I
downgraded back to 7.21 and the problem still exists. Last night we rebooted
the server and still the same problem. Our thin clients are still working, I
just can't get in to manage anything. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Jason
