As I can guess, you have the windows version installed. The server is java,
so there won't be any problem here.

Just to be sure that the manager is running: open a command line in windows
2008 and type this command: netstat -ano and check if some process is
attached to port 8080.
If this is correct, then open a browser and enter this url:
http://localhost:8080 and copy here what appears there.

downloading virtual appliance is the best option, of course, because it has
all the software installed there inside an ubuntu distro. We have this
installation and the configuration is minimal to have it running, but
firstly you need to enter to the LDAP just to be sure that it doesn't have
any special configuration for your company and also you will need to
download user information for your environment (but maybe you could
re-create this in the new environment). You will also need to know which
are the dhcp server configurations for your environment, just to know if
there are special "server-next" configurations.
