Here is what I do when mass flashing WRT54GLs:
1. Turn it off
2. Set your IP computer address to 192.168.1.3 (mask 255.255.255.0)
3. Turn it back on
4. As soon as the DMZ light comes on, press and hold either the "Secure Easy 
Setup" button or the Reset button until the DMZ light starts to blink
5. Telnet to 192.168.1.1
6a. If you dont care about keeping the existing config, run the "firstboot" 
command (without the quotes) then reboot
6b. If you want to keep the config, see 
http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe#in.failsafe.mode for how to 
unlock the config files
