Robert, you were right, but, now that I used a switch the way you
proposed, I got this strange behavior:

As soon as the WRT gets power, I get a couple of ping replies, but after
that nothing, just as before (except maybe that arp showed the router's
MAC address).

Would that be an indication of a hardware problem?

You should have a second window ready

In the best case, not always, I get only a few ping replies, as I said
above.

Where is the tftp procedure described?
