I'd suspect there should be a easy way to setup a local repository,
which you could populate from a download of a net repository? use some
sort of FTP mirror program?
Definitly something that would need to be documented though.

I guess really, you need the pre-reqs, even the core packages can be
downloaded "just in time".
I'll let other developers pitch in their thoughts. My concern is that
the tarball is continuing to grow and it may become too bloated for us
to manage in the future.

I've been wondering why more packages aren't in the step 0 aditional
packages, rather then in the growing tarball?
What about using the tarball to distribute only really core
things, and
have everything else downloadable just in-time, or for the user to
mirror for their arch locally (by a script?)
From a purely bandwidth-related point fo view, I would really like to
see this happen - it takes us over 36 hours to get an OSCAR tarball
down to Cape Town... There are certain packages that we can do
without, and would only add them just-in-time as you say, when users
clamour. What is the minimum of packages that _have_ to be bundled
with the trunk ?
