I think it's not a bad idea, but how long would it take you to implement it?

For the time being, I would suggest to simply add a new dist called
"common" and put all the common-rpms into
http://oscar.gforge.inria.fr/yum/dists/common so that we can continue
getting trunk up and running for RPM-based distributions.

Also, wouldn't Debian also have the same issue with common-debs?
