I am not meaning to be personally critical of anybody or there intentions but really, I think we need another language like we need a hole in the head.
I have never been one of the monkeys who see, speak and hear no evil about MM, I prefer to just say what I think so my views are not some MM kiss ass. AS3 is not perfect but it really is AS2 done right. I can find things wrong with it, but most people would think I am nit picking if I talked about it. It really does represent for the first time a viable API for an RIA platform. They have removed their framework from the API so you aren't sucked in to that nasty web that is the AS2 component framework. Everything has an interface and I only need implement those interfaces and bingo everything works, anything I want to do I can, anything I want to replace I can and yet I can still be 100% compatible, this is so big! AS3 is not a proprietary language it is EMCAScript, and comparable to JScript.NET that means an awful lot of people using very similar syntax. MM do represent a standard like it or not. I can see why this might be an interesting project for Nicolas but I can see no advantage whatsoever to a RIA developer in going off to some proprietary language that is neither one thing or another. I mean you might as well use xamalon, write in .NET and produce swfs that way instead. To be honest as much as MTASC appeals to a tiny fraction of the flash universe I see this new language appealing to a similar proportion of the current MTASC universe.. i.e. problably less than a dozen people. If that's appealing to you fine it's a free world and I have no doubt about Nicolas's ability to produce it and make it work well ...... but what is the point? Sorry to be negative and this is not at all a personal attack on the relevant individuals who I think are a bunch of smart and great guys just my personal opinion on the value of this project. I would really love to see their energy go into something that adds to the community but to be honest I dont see this new language project adds anything of value. Sorry, I accept I am not going to making any new friends with this post but I don't see a point in just saying "wow, awesome guys" Rob -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nicolas Cannasse Sent: Friday, October 21, 2005 11:53 PM To: Open Source Flash Mailing List Subject: Re: [osflash] MTASC Future > Will the new compiler/syntax allow a developer to take advantage of > the new features in the flash 8.5 player? Short answer : Yes. Long answer : At first the compiler will target current Flash VM so you can start doing Flash content *right now* instead of waiting Player 8.5 to be publicly released (i mean not alpha or beta anymore). Then after some time AVM2 support will be added. It will be pretty easy since the language will already support different platforms so having another target just suit well with the whole architecture.
