It is probably true that for ant users what you suggest is more elegant. But everybody does not use ant. More importantly, sometimes you want to try something and you dont want to have to worry about any ant scripts. Java and eclipse are wonderful that way. There is nothing wrong with a little ease of use every now and then - even smart/expert people appreciate it. The flash work flow sucks compared to Java. Every little bit helps.
