Totally. I cannot see Adobe not supporting an OSFlash User Group as, just like OSFlash itself, *open source*, and our vibrant, growing community is an invaluable asset to the Flash Platform.
Also: Most of our giveaways, etc. for the MMUG do not come from Macromedia/Adobe but book publishers and other companies who will support your user group regardless of whether you are an Adobe User Group. You just need to write to them, tell them about your group and ask for books (some in return for reviews, etc.) If they see that you're a serious group with a good audience, they'll support you. For MMUG's, Adobe's support basically involves sending a Not For Resale app along with a care package, twice a year, to be raffled and some other perks for managers. Not to downplay Adobe's support, but I don't think anyone sets up an MMUG for the benefits. I know that I spend good £3,000-£4,000 a year in running the MMUG (depending on how many large special meetings we have) -- most of that spent on the venue. It's nothing compared to the joy of hanging out with our amazing local community in London every month though. All this to say that it's more about the community than the perks and I'm sure there's space for both MMUGs and OSFlash User Groups :) Aral Peter Elst wrote: >I can definitely see your point Ralf -- its probably not a question of >choosing one or the other, there is no reason why we couldn't be >independent user groups and have a close affiliation with Adobe. > >Cheers, >Peter ><snip> > _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
