I'm using Adobe's free AS3 compiler on ubuntu, with make and scite. I
won't go back to AS2, not even for good money; AS3 is a fresh learning
curve but worth it.

I'm using TweenMax (http://blog.greensock.com/tweenmaxas3/) for tweening
and very impressed with it. And Flex (also free) for buttons and menus
(they are well-documented and easy to use, but a bit clunky compared to
native OS UI controls, or HTML forms; but if I need UI controls in flash
I don't think I'd consider anything else.)
