I'd prefer just to clean up the old VisualStudio directory - change its name to something like PlatformSpecifics/Windows, this way those used to the pre CMake days having an VisualStudio directory with .dsw/.dsp won't go find it and find old files missing. I suspect its those used to the old way that are more likely to be caught out.
