Paul Martz already answered second question

"The OSG Ref Man v2.2 contains an environment variable reference that
documents the Optimizer flags (see the OSG_OPTIMIZER env var). "

And as to documentation issues have a search through the archives there was
some very long discussions on this, and funds were generously made available
for Paul and Bob to produce the books at www.osgbooks.com

As to your 'SOMEONE' whether writing a book or commenting code has to spend
time doing this and time is valuable and as most are doing OSG development
on their own buck, many concentrate on the problem they are trying to solve
rather than documentation, some may not like that but hey its not their buck
or time.

Please feel free to add comments to source as and when you see it lacking,
I'm sure it will be appreciated by all ( see the wiki for submission
instructions for new code, bugs fixes and documentation etc)

Subject: Re: [osg-users] Documentation any? (+Optimizer question)

hi,

i didn't mean to tick anybody off (and i hope i didn't). i understand that
what i'm getting is still great! personally, i feel that including proper
and complete documentation in the source code (e.g.
doxygen) is good programming style and it usually doesn't take much extra
time when one does it right away.

anyways, instead of me giving someone money so they write a book about osg,
how do you guys feel about someone adding documentation to the source code
(without changing the functionality)? i suspect that i will know more in
time and i'll likely feel obligated to share that knowledge.

my second question: i couldn't find an answer to my initial problem (not in
the mailing list archive either). can anybody help? (let me know if this
type of question is not appropriate for this list.) thanks!

rick

here it is again:
