Oh and one thing, the program is still not responsive. The background in the window that opens is plain white and in the task manager it sais "not responding". I'm guessing this could have something to do with event handling, no?
Hard to say without seeing code. I suggest you start with an osg example, and work from there modifying things and testing after each modification. It's easier to learn how to do things this way than starting from scratch and then wondering why it doesn't work...
osgcompositeviewer could be a good example to start from.
