Well, that is not that surprising, it is a company that doesn't have unlimited resources (despite the 800 pound Facebook gorilla behind them). So they focus on where the money is - commercial game devs. Focus on Unity and Unreal 4 are only logical in that context, as those are the two most popular engines on the market at the moment. I am sure they work with other companies out of the open as well (Valve at least), but indies and non-mainstream tech users will be always at a disadvantage - if it works for them, great, if not, too bad ... I guess it is the inevitable consequence of a company transitioning from a tiny Kickstarter startup to a 50+ head business - you go after the low hanging fruit first, so that you can keep paying salaries and keep the "experiments" and "nice haves" for later (if ever).
