Is it possible to change to all hardware mixers muted on start by some
module parameter at least?

Since the levels are restored shortly after the driver is loaded this
should work around the issue and cause no additional problems.

I noticed that the Windows sound drivers have a "feature" that turns
the main mixer control all way down on user logon so they are probably
somewhat aware of the issue and introduced more bigs because of it.

Thanks
