I agree on all of Lar's points.

Google tracks all of the information submitted to the list like a forum, so there is no reason to have to go to the forum to see the forum.

If this were a forum, I would have to setup an RSS reader and check it for information as well. I am lazy, I like to go to one place for my communication.

It seems that this is a hotly debated subject in some other lists, but i think that the best way to deal with email lists is to know what your options are.

as a member of a list, you usually have three choices.

a) receive email updates every time that some one submits to the list

b) receive a digest at the end of every day

c) choose neither, and go to the list to see what has been submitted.

About the wiki option:

Wiki's are amazing for building structured information.

The best choice for wiki's, IMHO is Media Wiki.

Looking forward to a wiki,

I prefer email over forums for general discussions. It's easier for
me to keep track of what happens and to get an email everytime a
posting in a forum was made is a pain in the back. So, I'd vote
against the forum for now, since we basically have only one big topic
- ossec - here and the subtopics are not really so different. So I'd
stick to mail-only instead of having two discussionsystems.

About wishlist and bugsystem: I'd vote for bugzilla or some other
ticketingsystem.

I'd really love to have a wiki for the documentation, since it would
take some work from the dev-team by letting the community improve the
docs and the faqs.

In short:
- no forum,
- wiki for documentation and faq,
- bugzilla/ticketingsystem for wishlist and bugtracks, and
- mailinglist for discussions with a public archive.

But now we have ONE BIG QUESTION.

What you ossec-hids user prefer ?

- Report bugs and Wishlists in ossec-hids forum ?
- Report bugs and Wishlists in bugzila system ?
- Report bugs and Wishlists in this maillist ?

What you think about this new forum http://forum.ossec.net ?

What you think about one wiki interface for all ossec documentation ?

Please answer this email with your opinions.
