I totally agree...I am skeptical about attending the modality certification courses and hope that one day this is not considered a requirement to practice. I believe in manual therapy...hands on....I was talking with a PT who is in school to get his doctorate. He said that there is no evidence to prove that modalities actually work better or make a diffence....just thought I'd add that...maybe others have found it differently from their research.......I have used modalities but I find that what is going to happen generally happens with time...We can help strengthen and facilitate this process....that's my thoughts! Ron...I appreciate this list! (first time i have responded!)

In my experience, there is little a therapist or device can do to restore permanent and meaning ability to a hand affected by a CVA. Of course, I've seen patient's recover hand function s/p CVA, but this normally occurred spontaneously and rather quickly after the CVA. When someone is 1 year or more out from their stroke, and hand function is not meaningful, I do not feel that meaningful use will return.
