the goal of your request, so can you explain as I take some interrest on
this subject.
Speaking just for my own ideas here... it would be very nice to bring
other devices and data acquisition subsystems under the OWFS umbrella.
Although there are other tools allowing connectivity, there's something
to be said for consistency.
OWFS does an excellent job at managing One-Wire.. presenting all the
data in a manner that provides for reliable access and control. This,
for One-Wire alone, means that applications needing its data can focus
on other tasks, such as presenting and processing what was retrieved.
The design and development of 'hooks' or a formal interface might be
used to extend OWFS more rapidly. For example, if some of the projects
you mentioned could be interfaced, perhaps OWFS might take advantage of
their services and use these in the same way it does One-Wire bus
masters. This would remove the burden on OWFS development to support
certain devices at a "molecular" level and speed development. The trade
off is that external dependencies beyond OWFS control can break, so
reliability and simplicity might be compromised in certain instances
unless the interface is hardened to withstand all types of failure
(impossible to get them all, but one can try).
