owfs can be used by home automation (I use it to decide whether to
control my HVAC system one way or another way), but owfs is not a home
automation system.
If you want to control lights in a multi protocol way, you should use
something like misterhouse and Insteon (or Xbee or other solutions in
220V countries):

As for HA going haywire, I recommend using one that you've programmed
yourself, so that you can debug it if things go wrong as opposed to
rebooting a black box you don't control :)
Mine works pretty well until the actual insteon control devices have
themselves died and need to be replaced.
