Just an update, The Rpi (Raspbian release) seems very stable, at least over the last 2 weeks when using I2C DS2482-100 . Plugging device in - out, httpd always found them very fast. I only have 4 devices plugged in and running on 3.3V. I do plan on getting a 3.3 - 5V I2C level shifter and getting 1wire back onto 5VDC. I have two voltage measurement to input and assume the battery monitor devices DS2756 need a 5VDC supply to enable me to measure 0~5VDC on their inputs.
In this latest project I was going to use the Rpi GPIO pins to control some relays etc however as 1wire seems to be very reliable I may just use some 1wire DIO DS2408 and keep the Rpi end clean (& somewhat electrically Isolated) in terms of scripting and all the IO running through 1wire or if more critical I'll use the BAE910 and supervise through owfs. I do have two devices also connected via serial running at 34kb. I did not use a USB-Serial however simply used the GPIO UART pins and connected it through a 4 channel mux. The comms have also worked reliably over the last two weeks... Zero communication errors. Project thread is at http://www.thereefuge.com.au/board/threads/raspberry-pi-tank-monitor-project .3475/ Besides the packaging issues (Does not come with a case) the Rpi seems a great owfs platform for a similar price as a cheap router or NAS. My only longer term concern now is with the SDcard. Anybody had any good experiences with using SDCard as the main drive. I'm writing to mine every 1 minute. I may move to a HD and only use SDCard for boot however like the idea of also keeping it simple and small. If I can get 6 months from an SDcard I would be happy as I would simply image it to a new card and throw the old one out. I also have a PI and there seems to be a general problem with USB drivers or possibly some hardware issue. It's not just me, there are numerous post on forums. People from the foundation acknowledged this problem but for now there is no solution. So if anyone experiences problems with USBserial it's probably this. It apparently affects devices that are connected through a hub and some wireless keyboards too. The Broadcom chip has one usb output. It is connected to the SMSC... chip which is a Ethernet device and a usb hub. This SMSC.. chip most probably causes problems. > Cheers > Mick > > On 14/08/12 14:45, Robert Conway wrote: >> Oh should state memory leak is nothing to do with owfs, it seems a >> problem with the serial port and how I am using it to gather >> information from other devices via rs232.. >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: Robert Conway [mailto:rjcon...@bigpond.com] >> Sent: Tuesday, 14 August 2012 11:20 PM >> To: m...@sulley.info; 'OWFS (One-wire file system) discussion and help' >> Subject: Re: [Owfs-developers] owfs on Raspi running Raspian wheezy >> >> Hi Mick, >> >> Just wondering if the Rpi is reliable over longer periods.
