Since the machine is freezing before running Adobe stuff, I would look at hardware first - disconnect the DVD/CD for a while, for instance; and remove drives.
In the last few days I have had numerous BSOD problems with one of my systems, and for stability while checking hard disks and doing complete virus scans (using another machine), I rolled back to a restore point around 23May on the problem machine and it's fine - touch wood. Apart from hardware, the greatest problems I have had are due to graphics and printer drivers, and Adobe software or addons. And the occasional Windows Update or anti-virus update (I am now using Microsoft Security Essentials, and seems to have less of the latter than when using AVG). ________________________________ Ian Thomas Victoria Park, Western Australia -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Greg Keogh Sent: Friday, May 27, 2011 10:45 AM To: 'ozDotNet' Subject: RE: [OT] Freezing computer >What does the event log say? Nothing seems to specifically mention the freezing, but there are a suspiciously large number of events in the System and Application logs. The System one has Info events every 2 to 10 minutes non-stop telling me services whose names I don't recognise are stopping and starting. The Application log contains some Adobe related errors about conflicting versions, but again it's mostly meaningless to me. I do see mention of some Adobe components such as Captivate and Forms Designer in the conflict errors. This mess of events does hint however that something is NQR, but what? Adobe is looking a bit guilty. The Abode suite is bloatware, but I'll try to selectively disable parts of it such as Captivate (which my wife doesn't use) and others parts that we guess she probably doesn't use. Greg
