If you're doing this as an individual contractor on a work for hire / hourly basis then this is pretty strange.
Even as a company, we almost always decline disclosure of financial information on the basis that we're privately held and send whoever is asking a letter of solvency from our tax accountants instead (they just want to know we're not going to go bust - but that's a very strange consideration if you're an individual contractor).
