Hello all, This is just to let every know that there has been strong growth in the number of HypnoBirthing Practitioners here in Australia. There is one in Adelaide, eight or nine of us in Melbourne (that I know of) quite a lot in NSW and one lovely lone practicioner in Auckland, NZ. Hypnobirthing, for those that don't know, is basically focused on teaching women how to achieve pain-free childbirth. Based on the work of Dr Grantley Dick-Read, an English Obstetrician, who proposed the theory that pain in childbirth is NOT NATURAL. He proposed that the body is designed to give birth in an easy and gentle manner, and it has been, and still is, societal programming that teaches women to expect pain. And that is what they get! Hypnobirthing is not anti-medical, just pro-woman. We believe, and have repeatedly witnessed, that when a woman is educated about the naturalness of birth and de-programmed from the concepts, attitudes and mythology that causes Fear-Tension-Pain, she goes into "the zone" where the birthing is gentle, mostly pain free, and relaxing. Happy and contended mother, birthing companion and most importantly a relaxed, untraumatized and drug free baby. Pizza's are delivered, babies are birthed. One final note, we have formed a Victorian HypnoBirthing Practicioners Association, and please feel free to contact us for further information.
