Good Morning Frank - WELL......where do I begin with this? I guess firstly
in that I get a great mental image of a baby shooting skywards, breaking
throught the surface of the water and towards the heavens (as you so
eloquently compared it to pushing a ball under the water, and as this is
what a ball does.....)

On a serious note though, I have over 200 responses from women who have
birthed through water which say that women think it is wonderful it for a
variety of reasons....., and the stats of around 450 waterbirths (over the
past 4 years)showing us that it is a safe option and fraught with infinitely
less dangers than epidurals and pethidine - better outcomes overall, (apgar
scores, admissions to nursery, less perineal trauma, less assisted vaginal
births, etc etc, plus maternal satisfaction with their labour and birthing
experience is very high, and they leave feeling goood about going into their
next birth!)

Now how stupid is that?
Regards, Lynne

PS Believe it or not, the buoyancy is one of the things the women mention as
being a positive aspect - relieves the pressure on their legs, back and
perineum, enables them to change position more easily and get more
comfortable.

Hi, I just have to give my two bob's worth regarding water births... I
think
water births are the STUPIDEST idea since the Irish decided to land on the
sun at night. What happens when you push a ball under water? Its bouyancy
makes it pop UP
A baby has bouancy too. So unless the mother is willing to wear a snorkel
and mask and be upside down, pointing her perineum at the surface, the baby
is fighting bouancy and the uterus is fighting bouancy... stupid. Get out
of the water and onto a birthing chair where you belong and let
Gravity do the work Water for fish.. Regards, Frank
