Mary: I could find out more and will. I am not sure of the screening criteria that identified the percreta, I do know however they had identified it (maybe from a "routine" u/s) and were very sure that the placenta was percreta and "pretty sure" it hadn't grown into the bladder. In case of worst case scenario, the woman was sent to x-ray to have special IV lines put in (my lack of nursing shows up here!!!). I think it is possible to check for scar implantation, but I don't know the reliability. I am not in favour of routine u/s either, but if they can show up this stuff then that could be a blessing. In fact I don't think it would be a routine u/s but something of higher resolution that would show this. I can't imagine it is routine screening for a vbac here (they call it trial of scar (many don't know what i am talking about when I say vbac) and it is not encouraged by the ob's), but either an accreta/percretta would be a problem which ever way you birth. I will look into it.
